Common Questions

What VA benefits do disabled veterans get besides monthly pay?
Beyond the monthly disability check, service-connected veterans may qualify for VA health care, dental care, an auto or clothing allowance, travel reimbursement for VA appointments, VA home loan benefits, education benefits such as Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment, and state benefits like property tax breaks and free or reduced vehicle registration. Survivors may qualify for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) and life insurance through VALife.
Do VA benefits depend on your disability rating?
Many do. Health care priority groups, dental eligibility, the auto and clothing allowances, and most state property tax exemptions scale with your combined rating. Some benefits unlock only at 100% or with a permanent and total rating, such as CHAMPVA family health care and the full property tax exemptions in many states. Other benefits, like the VA home loan, are available to most eligible veterans regardless of rating.
